Stavros Stavrakis, MD, PhD
Dr. Stavrakis has been a faculty member of the Department of Medicine since July 2012.
He completed fellowships in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology and Cardiology at the University
of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, where he also completed his residency. He was a
research fellow at the University of Athens Medical School, Greece, where he also earned his
medical degree and PhD. Additionally, he earned a Master of Science degree in Clinical and
Translational Sciences at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He specializes in
the management of cardiac arrhythmias, both invasively (catheter ablation) and non-invasively
(pharmacotherapy), in addition to implanting pacemakers and defibrillators and providing
outpatient care. Over the last 12 years, his research has focused on autonomic
neuromodulation for the treatment of atrial fibrillation and other cardiovascular diseases. He has
been continuously funded since 2012. He has received several research grants, including the
OK-INBRE Clinical and Translational Research Award, 3 grants from the American Heart
Association, a College of Medicine Alumni Association grant and 3 Presbyterian Health
Foundation grants, and he is currently funded with an NIH R01 grant and an NIH R25 grant.
He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society and a
member of the American Heart Association and the European Society of Cardiology. He is a
member of the Editorial board of Heart Rhythm and JACC: Clinical Electrophysiology journals.
