Vlad Zaha, MD, PhD
Dr. Zaha serves as Medical Director of Cardio-Oncology, and holds joint appointments as Assistant Professor in the Cardiology Division, Department of Internal Medicine, Simmons Cancer Center and the Advanced Imaging Research Center at UT Southwestern Medical Center since 2016. He completed his MD degree at Carol Davila Medical School, Bucharest, Romania, then PhD degree at University of Freiburg, Germany, and postdoctoral training in cardiac molecular biology and genetics at University of Utah. He received training in internal medicine at University of Indiana, and cardiovascular medicine and advanced cardiac imaging at Yale University and University College London, UK. Dr Zaha combines expertise in fundamental scientific methods, multimodality advanced cardiovascular imaging and patient-centered clinical cardiac care. He is an Associate Editor for the scientific journal Circulation, Consultant Editor for JACC – Cardio-Oncology and serves in the American College of Cardiology – Cardio-Oncology Leadership Council. Dr Zaha is an active scientific investigator conducting translational research in myocardial energetic metabolism alterations induced by cancer, cancer therapies and cardiometabolic disorders and is studying mechanisms of cardiac injury and regenerative processes using PET, MRI and MR spectroscopy technologies, supported by funding from CPRIT, CRSM and NIH.
