Norman Lapin, PhD, Biomedical Engineering
Dr. Lapin is a Research Scientist in the Department of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children who conducts clinical and basic science research in cooperation with Children’s Health of Dallas and UT Southwestern Medical Center. With training in dual disciplines in the physical and biomedical sciences, Dr. Lapin’s biomedical research largely involves connecting experts from very different field and synthesizing the information with his own understanding and perspective on biomedicine.
Growing up in New York City had an outsized effect on Dr. Lapin’s career and interests which span work with animal models, imaging from microscopy to MRI, chess, graphic arts, and languages including Chinese, French and Spanish. Dr. Lapin is a visual (and somewhat auditory) synesthete which no doubt makes learning more “colorful” for him, accounting for his diversity of interests.
