Christoph Zechner, MD, PhD

Christoph Zechner, M.D., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Endocrinology Division of the Department of Internal Medicine, the Department of Pharmacology, and the Pak Center for Mineral Metabolism at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Dr. Zechner earned his medical degree and research doctorate at the University of Freiburg in Germany, combined with a research fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine. After a medical internship at the University of Würzburg, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis and the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute at Lake Nona. Subsequently, he moved to UT Southwestern to complete his clinical training in internal medicine and endocrinology and research training in energy and solute metabolism in the laboratory of Drs. David Mangelsdorf and Steven Kliewer as a member of the Physician-Scientist Training Program.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and the subspecialty of endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2014. Clinically, Dr. Zechner specializes in Type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus, general endocrinology, and disorders of mineral metabolism with a focus on phosphate metabolism. His research is focused on the mechanisms governing mammalian cellular phosphate homeostasis and sensing.
