Katherine Michelis, MD
Katherine C. Michelis, M.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She is a cardiologist who specializes in the care of patients with advanced heart failure or who have received a heart transplant or left ventricular assist device. She is also on faculty at the VA North Texas Health Care System in Dallas, where she serves as the Director of Cardiac and Vascular Rehabilitation. Her clinical and research interests include mechanical circulatory support, heart transplantation, amyloid cardiomyopathy, and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.
Dr. Michelis attended Dartmouth College and earned her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. She completed an Internal Medicine residency and General Cardiology fellowship at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. She then completed fellowships in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology as well as clinical research at UT Southwestern.
She is certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She also has subspecialty certification in echocardiography. She joined the staff of the VA North Texas Health Care System in 2020 and the UT Southwestern faculty in 2021.
She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in major scientific journals and has presented her research nationally. She is a member of the Heart Failure Society of America.
