Jiang He

Dr. He is a Professor of Epidemiology, Medicine, and Neurology and holds the S. Roger and Carolyn P. Horchow Chair in Cardiac Research at the UT Southwestern Medical Center. He is a nationally and internationally renowned scientist in epidemiological, clinical, and translational research. Dr. He has conducted pioneering studies in cardiometabolic disease and has served as the principal investigator or co-investigator for more than 50 major research awards from the NIH, with total funding exceeding 200 million dollars. Dr. He has authored over 750 scientific articles, with an h-index of 158, published in high-impact biomedical journals including NEJM, JAMA, and The Lancet. A devoted educator, he has mentored more than 100 master’s students and over 50 doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows. Additionally, he has mentored more than 20 junior faculty investigators funded by NIH K-awards or other grants. Many of his mentees have developed successful research careers and become leaders in their respective fields. Dr. He has served on numerous committees for the National Academy of Medicine, NIH, CDC, and the American Heart Association. He has also served on multiple NIH Study Sections and Special Emphasis Panels. Dr. He has received numerous awards from local, national, and international academic institutions and professional societies, including the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Johns Hopkins University, the Detlev Ganten Excellence Award in Hypertension and Global Health Implementation from the World Hypertension League, the Abraham Lilienfeld Award from the American College of Epidemiology, and the Distinguished Scientist award from the American Heart Association. He was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2023. Dr. He earned a B.M. from Jiangxi Medical College and an M.D. from Peking Union Medical College in China. He received a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University and an M.S. in Human Genetics from Tulane University in the U.S.
