Ahmed Elamir, MD, M.Sc.
Clinical Fellow
Dr. Ahmed Elamir received his M.D. from Cairo University, Egypt, where he also completed his medical radiation oncology residency and earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in clinical oncology in 2015. His thesis focused on outcomes in locally advanced pancreatic cancer.
In early 2018, Dr. Elamir was awarded the AMAAC grant, which supported his training in proton therapy and pancreatic cancer radiation therapy at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, Germany.
From August 2018 to February 2021, he pursued a combined gastrointestinal and thoracic clinical research fellowship in the Radiation Medicine Program at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network, University of Toronto, Canada. During his fellowship, Dr. Elamir gained extensive clinical and research experience in pancreatic cancer radiation therapy, mesothelioma radiation therapy, and lung SBRT. He was actively involved in treatment planning and implementation and was exposed to early MR-linac technology at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. His research focused on pancreatic cancer, where he utilized a mouse-derived xenograft model to assess re-oxygenation during SBRT and developed a risk score model to predict loco-regional recurrence following upfront surgical resection.
With a strong background in pancreatic cancer radiation therapy, tumor microenvironment studies, and imaging/hypoxia biomarkers, Dr. Elamir joined the Aguilera Lab at UT Southwestern Medical Center as a postdoctoral researcher. In this role, he reviewed neoadjuvant SBRT data and published findings on oligometastatic pancreatic cancer. He is currently a clinical fellow pursuing the ABR alternate pathway, aiming to advance clinical-genomic-imaging research and translational lab skills to further his career as a radiation oncologist specializing in GI and pancreatic cancer.
