Chiamaka Okorie, MD

Chiamaka (Amaka) Okorie is a dermatology resident physician in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Texas Southwestern. She earned her medical degree from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and completed her internship at Cambridge Health Alliance, a Harvard Medical School–affiliated program.
Amaka brings a global, mission-driven approach to skin health shaped by her lived experience. She immigrated from Nigeria to the United States at age 16 for college and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from SUNY Geneseo. While her early work focused on academic publishing, she has recently developed a passion for storytelling that reflects the immigrant experience and preserves thoughtful, human-centered ideas.
Her work blends clinical excellence with innovation at the intersection of dermatology, technology, and health equity. She is the co-founder of DartDerm, an educational platform advancing inclusive dermatologic education, and collaborates with dermatologists across Africa to improve diversity in AI and image-based medical databases. She is deeply committed to improving patient education, optimizing clinical workflows, and building sustainable dermatologic care models in underserved communities.
Amaka is also dedicated to medical education and mentorship, with a focus on creating pipelines that support future physicians from underrepresented backgrounds. She is particularly drawn to the needs of asylees, newly arrived immigrants, and refugees—an interest that has shaped her current Schweitzer Fellowship, through which she provides medical accompaniment to these populations in her community.
Outside of medicine, she enjoys photography, cooking Nigerian dishes, creating floral arrangements, and has recently taken up snowboarding during her time in New England.
