A. Personal Statement
At the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, I am currently a Professor in the Department of Radiation Physics and Director of Imaging. I am a clinical medical physicist by training with over 20 years of experience in various aspects of medical imaging and medical informatics. I am currently leading the MRI-guided radiation therapy effort in the Division of Radiation Oncology, including the MRI-Linac project. Prior to this internal transfer, I had worked in the MRI section of the Imaging Physics Department for nearly 10 years. For the past several years, I have participated in various research projects to quantitatively assess treatment response in cancer using diffusion weighted MR imaging. I am currently involved in several active MR imaging study protocols in collaboration with faculty members of several departments at MD Anderson. A main part of my research focus has been in the area of Quantitative MR Imaging and functional MRI applications in the assessment of treatment response and treatment guidance in radiation therapy. I am very excited about the clinical applications and future promises of MRI applications in Radiation Oncology and I believe the results and techniques developed in this proposed study will have great impacts in the patient care of radiation therapy.
Dr. Floyd’s RSNA fellowship application has my full support on this project, and I believe the success of this project will have a significant impact on our patient care and future clinical research.
