2025 Functional Neurological Disorder Virtual Symposium: FND Across the Lifespan (RP2504D)
Overview
Functional neurological disorder (FND) is a common neuropsychiatric condition that leads to higher rates of disability, diminished quality of life, and increased health care utilization. It continues to be under-recognized within the medical community. A compassionate communication of the diagnosis and referral to evidence-based treatments can result in considerable improvements for those living with FND. This live-streamed webinar aims to provide education about the diagnosis, management, and multidisciplinary approach to FND presented via didactic lectures and discussion. The conference culminates in an Interprofessional Educational Q&A panel, offering an opportunity for these professionals to engage in a dynamic discussion. During this panel, they will share their distinct perspectives and treatment approaches to Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), enriching the attendees’ understanding by highlighting the multidisciplinary nature of care and treatment strategies for this complex condition.
Target Audience
The target audience will be health care clinicians involved in clinical neuroscience, e.g. physicians, advanced practice providers, psychologists, social workers, licensed professional counselors, and rehabilitative therapists, who may span departments of psychiatry, neurology, and/or physiatry.
Learning Objectives
- Recognize FND as a diagnosis based on positive signs and features as seen on the physical exam/semiology, and not a diagnosis of exclusion with a focus on pediatric FND
- Develop strategies to communicate a diagnosis of FND clearly, compassionately, and confidently.
- Discuss strategies for appropriately referring patients to evidence-based interventions, e.g. rehabilitative therapy and psychotherapy tailored to pediatric patients.
- Discuss educational resources and patient experiences on the diagnosis and treatment of FND.
