Image-Guided Adaptive Brachytherapy for Cervical Cancer Training Program (RP2511A-042325)

April 23, 2025 to April 24, 2025

High dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy is an essential component in the management of locally advanced cervical cancer. However, suboptimal workflows can cause anxiety, distress, and discomfort in patients, while inadequate training can compromise treatment outcomes. This course aims to introduce state of the art HDR brachytherapy techniques and best-practice guidelines through a combination of didactic lectures, live/video procedure /equipment demonstration, and hands-on training sessions. Speakers will reference updated guidelines for Image guided adaptive brachytherapy.  Attendees will gain the confidence to initiate an HDR cervical cancer brachytherapy program or refine their skills to apply in their own clinical practice.

Target Audience

Audience is intended to be multidisciplinary, including: physicians, physician assistants, nurses, advanced practice nurses, physicists, dosimetrists, radiation therapists.

Learning Objectives

PART ONE: Starting an High Dose Rate(HDR) brachytherapy program for cervical cancer treatment

1) Develop (novice) and/or enhance (advanced) cervical cancer HDR brachytherapy program knowledge and skills, including: vault design, commissioning equipment, anesthesia, nursing, and reimbursement.

2) Address the challenges with developing a brachytherapy program.

PART TWO: Exploring Hybrid {Interstitial + Intracavitary} Cervical cancer brachytherapy application and treatment planning

1) Review state of the art treatment planning for cervical cancer brachytherapy following EMBRACE guidelines.

2) Assess the indications and application of Hybrid brachytherapy.

3) Explore experience transitioning from traditional 2D planning, to CT-based planning, to MRI-based planning.
