Michael Bowen, MD, MPH, MSCS
Michael Bowen, M.D. M.P.H is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and the Peter O’Donnell Jr. School of Public Health in Dallas, TX. He earned his medical degree and completed a residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Following residency, he completed the VA National Quality Scholars Fellowship Program, where he received training in quality improvement, implementation science, health systems science, and outcomes and health services research. He also has a Master of Public Health from Vanderbilt University, a Master of Science in Clinical Science from UT Southwestern, and a Certificate in Biomedical Informatics from the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Biomedical Informatics at Houston. Clinically, he practices outpatient General Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern and Parkland Health.
Dr. Bowen is Co-director of the General Internal Medicine Fellowship at UT Southwestern and section editor of the Bottom Line Summary for the Journal of General Internal Medicine. He has led and serves on numerous committees, including the VA National Quality Scholars Alumni Committee and the Society of General Internal Medicine evidence-based medicine task force.
Dr. Bowen’s research focuses on the screening, prevention, and treatment of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes. He collaborates broadly with clinicians and researchers at UT Southwestern and Parkland Health to develop and evaluate pragmatic, electronic health record driven solutions to improve health care delivery and clinical outcomes.
