Emily Levy Kamugisha, M.D., AAHIVS

Emily Levy Kamugisha, M.D., AAHIVS, is an Assistant Professor and Associate Program Director in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in family medicine, women’s health, and HIV primary care treatment.
Dr. Levy Kamugisha earned her medical degree at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine. She completed a residency in family medicine at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, and received certification as an HIV primary care specialist through the American Academy of HIV Medicine.
Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2018 as an Assistant Professor and became an Associate Program Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program in 2020.
Dr. Levy Kamugisha’s clinical focus includes persons of all ages and she works to tackle health disparities, including HIV prevention uptake with PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for the prevention of HIV infection). Dr. Levy Kamugisha spent three years working in an international health clinic treating refugees, and she has extensive global health and tropical medicine experience. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of HIV Medicine.
