Laiba Husain, PhD is an Assistant Professor at the Peter O'Donnell Jr. School of Public Health at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Husain completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan, followed by a Master's in Public Health through a US-UK Fulbright grant at the University of Birmingham. She then completed her doctoral program at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences at the University of Oxford alongside a fellowship at The Health Improvement Studies Institute through the University of Cambridge. Her doctoral work focused on the shift toward remote and digital triage in UK general practice, evaluating hybrid service models, patient accessibility, and staff wellbeing across NHS sites in England.

Dr. Husain came to OSPH as a Dean's Early Impact Faculty Scholar, a competitive tenure-track award for promising early-career investigators, where she is currently building a research program at the intersection of implementation science and health services research. Through her THRIVE (Telehealth Research and Innovation for Veterans with Cancer) pilot funding (from NIH P50CA271358), she collaborates with VA investigators nationally to conduct foundational analysis of tele-oncology utilization patterns among patients with cancer, establishing baseline implementation patterns and identifying data infrastructure capabilities. The overall goal of her work is to identify associations with quality outcomes and predictors of implementation failure among cancer patients receiving tele-oncology services.

Dr. Husain draws on her background in implementation science, qualitative research methods, and health services research to study how tele-oncology and digital health tools scale across health systems.
