The purpose of this program is to allow participants a comprehensive day of updated material in the ophthalmology field. This includes rare and unusual cases which might otherwise not be seen, reports on results of current and new surgical procedures, technologies and treatment modalities which could be incorporated into practices, and comprehensive reviews of other ophthalmologic topics germane to the every day practice of ophthalmology.

Target Audience

This course is designed for all practicing and academic ophthalmologists interested in a comprehensive update on the advances in medical and surgical care of ophthalmic conditions and diseases.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this course, participants should be able to link the educational objectives to Core Competencies (Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Professionalism, and Quality Improvement):

  • List risk factors for visual loss and use imaging to diagnose and follow neuro-ophthalmic disease
  • Describe the perception of vision loss glaucoma patients experience and improve diagnosis and treatment
  • Apply new diagnostics and therapeutics to retinal patient care 
  • Evaluate the informed consent process to improve patient understanding
  • Explain the effects visual impairments have on a patient’s ability to drive
  • Describe new diagnostic and surgical techniques for the correction of oculoplastic disorders
  • Explain how the components of the tear film contribute to and change corneal disease
