22nd Annual Paul C. Peters Urology Symposium (RP1601A)
This symposium will review current recommendations, issues, and controversies in the management of urologic conditions, with an emphasis on topics relevant to the general urologist. Breakout sessions will focus on the management and therapeutic modalities of selected disease processes. Live surgical cases will be televised and moderated to emphasize important aspects of patient selection and surgical technique. Additionally management of practical cases in urology will be reviewed, with audience participation.
Target Audience
The symposium is designed for urologists and urologic allied health professionals who wish to enhance their knowledge of the current diagnostic and therapeutic modalities in urology.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this symposium, the participants should be able to link the educational objectives to Core Competencies (Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Practice-Based Learning, Inter-Disciplinary Teams and Informatics) and be able to:
- Identify and diagnose patients with pelvic floor disorders through physical exam, imaging, and urodynamic where appropriate.
- Diagnose and surgically treat BPH. Understand the risks, benefits, and expected outcomes of novel surgical techniques for BPH management.
- Characterize and appropriately treat post-prostatectomy urinary incontinence.
- Identify the role for and components of the workup for microhematuria. Understand the risks and benefits of management strategies for non-muscle invasive and muscle invasive bladder cancer.
- Evaluate the appropriate indications and techniques for ablative and surgical therapy for renal cell carcinoma.
- Discuss the role of MRI in the diagnosis of prostate cancer.
- Identify and adopt strategies to integrate physical medicine and rehabilitation into the treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction.
- Describe the diagnostic and therapeutic algorithm for hypospadias.
- Identify patients in whom testosterone therapy is appropriate and recognize the risks associated with therapy particularly related to prostate cancer.
