EM2203F "HIV associated Kaposi Sarcoma: the Case for a a multidisciplinary Approach" (IM GR-030422)
Purpose and Overview: The purpose of this lecture is to update internal medicine clinicians about the variety of clinical presentation, pathophysiology, and treatment of HIV associated Kaposi sarcoma and to give an overview of the scope of the illness locally at Parkland Hospital, with emphasis on how multidisciplinary collaboration can potentially improve outcomes for these patients.
Target Audience
UT Southwestern faculty, fellows, residents and medical students, community physicians, nurse clinicians, physician assistants and nurses.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Recognize the variability of clinical presentation of KS and the first steps in clinical management
- Understand the geographic, racial, and ethnic disparities in outcomes of KS
- Identify the research gaps that persist in our understanding of KS
presented by the "Kaposi Sarcoma Working Group"
