Purpose and Overview

M&M conferences have evolved over time and may risk losing the original intentions and value. As residency training programs focus increased attention to improving patient safety, the M&M conference is an excellent opportunity to achieve systems improvement, teach residents’ clinical reasoning, and build their professional identities.

Target Audience

UT Southwestern faculty, fellows, residents and medical students, community physicians, nurse clinicians, physician assistants and nurses.

  • Summarize the literature on the use of M&M conference in Internal Medicine residencies
  • Describe the use of the ambulatory-specific M&M conference in UTSW’s Internal Medicine residency
