Purpose and Overview
All of our patients will eventually succomb to their illnesses. Understanding how hospice can support and provide increased quality of life and symptom control to your patients is essential for total person care. This talk will help providers gain knowledge and skills about helping patients with this transition.
Target Audience
UT Southwestern faculty, fellows, residents and medical students, community physicians, nurse clinicians, physician assistants and nurses.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Understand the history and relevance of hospice for your patient population.
- Use current admission guidelines to facilitate timely referrals to hospice.
- Improve communication skills about hospice and end of life with patients.
