Purpose and Overview

This session explores how advancing the careers of women in academic medicine is not only a matter of equity but a strategic approach to improving healthcare outcomes. Through data, case studies, and evidence-based strategies, we will examine the intersection of equity, leadership, and health system performance. Participants will gain insight into how promoting women in medicine contributes to more inclusive decision-making, better patient care, and a stronger academic workforce.

Target Audience

UT Southwestern faculty, fellows, residents and medical students, community physicians, nurse clinicians, physician assistants and nurses.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  •  Define key drivers of health inequities including the role of medical decision making 
  • Identify historical context of women’s advancement in academia and importance
  • Describe strategies to increase promotion of women in academic medicine
