OVERVIEW

Continuous flow left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) have changed the natural history of individuals with end-stage advanced heart failure. Since their regulatory approval in 2008, there have been substantial improvements in LVAD technology, management, and understanding of prognosis. For over a decade, there has been a rise in the number of LVADs implanted to over 15,000 implants. Therefore, LVADs are becoming more prevalent in routine clinical practice and continued educational updates are necessary. This symposium aims to target advanced heart failure specialists, general cardiologists, advanced practice providers, nurses, and allied health professionals. In doing so, will provide an update on the state-of-the art management and technology of LVADs. The educational material will be primarily didactic with a portion that will be case-based.
