Human Trafficking: The Role of the Clinician (RP2208A)

Health care providers have a unique opportunity to become the first point of contact in identifying and providing assistance to human trafficking victims. This activity is designed to educate physicians and health care practitioners on human trafficking and provide information on a trauma-informed and patient-centered approach to providing care and education, increasing identification, and responding appropriately to persons who are at risk or have experienced trafficking. The live webinar is available to UTSW and community healthcare providers, and will provide practitioners with information on forms of human trafficking, global and national impact, red flags, health risks and resources to respond in health care and advocate for their patients. This activity has been approved by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) in accordance with House Bill 2059 (2019) to meet health care practitioner licensure renewal requirements.

 

Target Audience

This course is open to all clinicians at UT Southwestern seeking to complete an HHS-approved human trafficking course that may be used for licensure renewal.

  • Define the different types of human trafficking
  • Describe the impact of Human Trafficking nationally and globally
  • Recognize signs of human trafficking in health care settings
  • Explain the role of the clinician in responding to human trafficking
  • Identify resources to assist persons who have experienced trafficking
