Purpose and Content
This course is designed to address current treatment strategies for glaucoma with an emphasis on comprehensive evaluation and medical treatment as well as minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Target Audience
This course is appropriate for ophthalmologists, primary care physicians, neurologists, optometrists and other health care professionals who would benefit from a discussion on the diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic medical conditions related to various presentations of neurological diseases.
Specifically, this session is designed for practicing and academic ophthalmologists, residents, fellows in training, and other health care providers interested in a comprehensive update on the advances in medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- State the use for, and efficacy of, circumferential trabeculotomy for pediatric glaucoma
- Describe the role of circumferential trabeculotomy in developing novel glaucoma surgical techniques
- Explain neuroprotective effects of a peptide derived from aB crystalline protein (peptain-1-CPP), including axoprotection and preservation of vision
- Identify the molecular mechanisms underlying peptain-1-CPP-mediated neuroprotection of retinal ganglion cells and their axons in a rodent model of glaucoma
- Discuss the limitations of current glaucoma shunts
- Interpret the strengths of the Squid Glaucoma microShunt
- Apply best glaucoma management when scarred conjunctiva is present
- How to avoid corneal endothelial failure when planning glaucoma surgery
