233 Psychiatry Forensic Group Seminar Series: (030823)

The Forensic Group meeting will occur on the second Wednesday of every other month for one and a half hours. In collaboration with the Forensic Group of Dallas, made up of a multidisciplinary group of mental health professionals—psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed counselors—and lawyers, this series offers education on a broad range of practice and policy topics related to psychology/psychiatry and the law. Each session, presenting the meeting’s topic from the different disciplines’ perspectives, informs psychiatrists and psychologists about the various ways mental health issues interface with the law and how to manage and address these issues, practically and ethically. Presenters include local and national mental health professionals and lawyers. UT Southwestern faculty and graduates present regularly. Format will be Didactic lecture followed by interactive Q/A discussion and content will be appropriate for Psychiatry faculty and residents, psychiatrists in the community, psychology faculty and residents, psychologists in the community, and clinical social workers seeking practical knowledge related to the forensic psychiatry and psychology. Also in attendance are lawyers interested in the interface of mental health.

1. Identify the current expert guidelines and algorithms in psychiatric practice for forensic issues

2. Contrast the strengths and weaknesses of the evidence base for these forensic recommendations
