ForwardTSRH Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics: Topics for Primary Care (JS1803D)
The one-day conference will highlight common developmental-behavioral conditions, their etiology, identification and management. Presenters will update providers on new developments and enhance their understanding of developmental conditions pertinent to primary care settings and will feature opportunities to apply knowledge in clinical situations.
Target Audience
This course is designed for pediatricians, family practitioners, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants and health care professionals providing direct care to children.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the activity participants should be able to:
• Describe how to screen children and families for a Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and review diagnostic criteria and evidence-based management strategies.
• Review the latest clinical guidelines and diagnostic criteria for ADHD, and provide an overview of first-line and second-line treatment strategies, including CAM treatment.
• Identify recognizable but less commonly considered genetic conditions in children with congenital anomalies, unusual features and/or neurocognitive impairments.
• Discuss varied presentations of children with FASDs and practical aspects of diagnosis and treatment.
• Provide an overview of the many new stimulant medications that are now available for treatment of ADHD, and provide clinical criteria for choosing among the numerous medication options – both old and new.
• Identify the threats to early childhood development, know the laws relating to special education for young children in this country, and recognize the system gaps for identifying and treating children in need.
• Provide insights and interventions for clinicians to better manage challenging ADHD patients – including pearls to address issues with poor adherence, common co-morbidities and significant side effects.
