SRC's Brandon Carrell Visiting Professorship (JS2506C)
This one and one-half day course will focus on state of the art pediatric orthopedic treatment protocols at Scottish Rite for Children (SRC) and current research conducted by the residents, fellows and staff physicians at SRC. The program will utilize case presentations and question/answer format in addition to PowerPoint presentations. Faculty are also invited from across the country to share their research and practice protocols. Ample time will be allocated for discussion between audience and the faculty.
Target Audience
The course is designed for pediatric orthopedic surgeons and orthopedic surgeons with an interest in pediatric orthopedics. In addition, other healthcare providers are invited to attend but are reminded that the content will focus on pediatric orthopedics.
Learning Objectives
- Review complications associated with treatment of pediatric hip conditions, such as AVN, growth disturbances, and failed osteotomies, and understand the risk factors contributing to these complications.
- Recognize early warning signs for better patient management and identify technical and decision-making errors that contributed to poor outcomes.
- Discuss modifications in surgical techniques and patient selection to minimize risks.
- Evaluate the limitations of current reporting methods and their impact on patient care and discuss how improving data collection and reporting can enhance surgical decision-making.
- Describe the important steps involved in developing and implementing a CP hip surveillance program
- Review the effectiveness of hip surveillance in preventing late-stage hip dislocations and salvage surgery
- Discuss solutions and best practices for overcoming logistical, clinical, and resource-related challenges of implementing a CP hip surveillance program.
