Sickle Cell Disease Educational Speaker Series (RP1509H)
The overall purpose of this program is to effectively and adequately educate health care providers and allied health staff on the proper diagnosis and treatment and how to approach pain management of patients with sickle cell disease. Basic neurologic complications in patients with sickle cell disease will also be discussed. The format of this program will be a series of lectures presented by experts in the field on a variety of topics followed by simultaneous provider and allied health sessions.
Target Audience
This course is designed for physicians, counselors, psychologists, physician’s assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, scientists/researchers, and social workers who are seeking updates in the appropriate management and ongoing care of patients with sickle cell disease.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe some of the general barriers to care in patients with sickle cell disease
- To review the pathophysiology and employ appropriate management of serious medical complications in patients with sickle cell disease
- To recognize the importance and when patients with sickle cell disease need subspecialty referral/assessment for complex medical complications
- Be able to express the importance of multidisciplinary care for every patient with sickle cell disease
