Walker/Sinn Lecture Series 2013 - Chins and Lips: How to Think, How to Fix

The Walker/Sinn Lecture is held annually to acknowledge and celebrate the major contributions by Drs. Robert V. Walker and Douglas P. Sinn. Dr. Robert V. Walker served as Chair of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas from 1956 to 1984 and Dr. Douglas P. Sinn served in the same capacity from 1984 to 2004. Under their leadership and direction, the program produced 215 alumni, 29 department or division chairmen, 2 deans, and 31 research fellows.
 
Aesthetic reconstruction of the chin and lips is integral to oral and maxillofacial surgery practices and education. Good patient outcomes are based on good surgical planning and execution. This presentation will discuss concepts that optimize good outcomes of esthetic surgery of the chin and lips as well as considerations in managing complications and complex patients. The purpose of this presentation is to enhance the performance of esthetic and reconstructive surgery of the chin and lips
by oral and maxillofacial surgeons and allied health professionals.

 

Target Audience

This course is designed for dentists, dental specialists, dental anesthesiologists and allied health providers interested in ambulatory anesthesia.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to link the educationalobjectives to Core Competencies (Medical Knowledge and Patient Care) and be able to:
n Describe the various surgical techniques to optimize the esthetics of the
chin and lip
n Identify the risks and benefits of various surgical techniques of the chin and lips
n Explain why surgical complications and outcome failures occur
n Describe the surgical and non-surgical correction needed to address surgical complications and outcome failures of esthetic surgery of the chin and lips
n Assess the management of complex patients (i.e., post-traumatic, pathology, etc.)
