Purpose and OverviewDespite strong associative evidence of a gut-joint axis driving inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and spondyloarthritis (SpA), the specific mechanisms by which microbes or their products trigger intestinal immune dysregulation and ultimately inflammatory arthritis have not been elucidated. This presentation will discuss emerging hypotheses that connect microbial and mucosal changes associated with RA and SpA with the development of inflammation in the joint.
