100 Academic Clinical Provider Lecture Series: "Hidradenitis Suppurativa: A Painful Diagnosis Not to Miss" (041524)

The purpose of this program is to: 1) provide a forum to review and discuss the clinical management of patients and to evaluate issues confronted by today’s Nurse
Practitioners and Physician Assistants in both public and private clinical practice and medical research 2) provide a forum through which current UT Southwestern
protocols and Ethical issues are addressed. The course material will be presented through lecture presentations, power points, case studies, question and answer
sessions, and video presentations.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  1. Describe the diagnosis of hidradenitis suppurativa
  2. Discuss the prevalence and demographics of HS
  3. Discuss comorbidities of HS
  4. Making the diagnosis of HS, performing the physical exam
  5. Discuss the staging of HS
  6. Approach to treatment in the primary care setting and the emergency/urgent care setting
  7. Identify and distinguish between HS and common look alike conditions such as soft tissue skin infection, folliculitis, ingrown hairs, Bartholin cysts, and rarely Fournier's gangrene
  8. Review other findings associated with the follicular occlusion triad and tetrad which includes HS, acne conglobata, dissecting cellulitis of the scalp and pilonidal cysts.
