100 Academic Clinical Provider Lecture Series: "Outpatient Headache Management" (031824)

The purpose of this program is to: 1) provide a forum to review and discuss the clinical management of patients and to evaluate issues confronted by today’s Nurse
Practitioners and Physician Assistants in both public and private clinical practice and medical research 2) provide a forum through which current UT Southwestern
protocols and Ethical issues are addressed. The course material will be presented through lecture presentations, power points, case studies, question and answer
sessions, and video presentations.

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  1. Compare and contrast the clinical presentation of Primary vs Secondary causes of headache.
  2. Discuss the diagnostic studies used in the evaluation of headache.
  3. Discuss the pathogenesis of migraine.
  4. Compare and contrast the clinical presentation of migraine with and without aura and migraine variants.
  5. Discuss the acute management and prophylactic measures used in the management of migraine headaches.
  6. Describe the clinical presentation and management of a tension headache.
  7. Describe the clinical presentation and management of cluster headache.
  8. Describe the clinical presentation and management of a headache secondary to temporal arteritis.
  9. Discuss the etiology, clinical presentation, and management of trigeminal neuralgia.
