Inspiring and Expanding the Psychiatric Workforce in Texas (JS1702F)

This collaborative, creative, interactive event is a unique opportunity for leaders in psychiatry education and training from state and local systems all over Texas to engage in dialogue with national experts from the American Psychiatric Association and American Association of Community Psychiatry.

 

The goal: To network and share ideas for expanding the ability of the psychiatry workforce in Texas to meet the needs of Texans, particularly those who need help the most.

 

The outcome: Stimulate innovative approaches to inspiring psychiatric trainees in all settings and develop a set of recommendations for furthering community psychiatric education in Texas.

Target Audience

This course is designed for psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other mental health professionals interested in contributing to the overall discussion of expanding the psychiatric workforce in Texas.

Learning Objectives

  • Creating community psychiatry educational experiences for students and residents with meaningful learning objectives
  • Identify strategies in improving access to underserved populations
  • Describe integrated care and how it can be applied to community psychiatry
  • Identify interpersonal and technologic skills needed for future community psychiatrists
  • Identify the skills needed to teach public health, population management and performance improvement to trainees
