William Reed, Doctor of Medicine, Associate Dean for Quality, Safety and Outcomes Education
Gary Reed, MD, MS is the Associate Dean for Quality, Safety and Outcomes Education and the Headmaster of the Academic Colleges at UT Southwestern. He holds the S.T, Harris Family Distinguished Chair in Internal Medicine and the Eva A. Rosenthal Professorship in Internal Medicine. He was educated at the University of Texas at Austin (BA, 1973, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa), UT Southwestern Medical School (MD, 1977, Alpha Omega Alpha), and the University of Texas at Dallas (MS, 2012, Alpha Omega Alpha). He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine in 1980 at the University of Texas Southwestern Affiliated Hospitals and joined the faculty of UT Southwestern that same year. At UT Southwestern, Dr. Reed has served as the medical director of Emergency Services at Parkland Memorial Hospital (1982-89), the Division Chief of General Internal Medicine (1983-2006), Vice Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine (2007-2009), and the Chief Quality Officer for UT Southwestern University Hospitals and Clinics (2010-2014). Dr. Reed has an active practice in primary care and hospital medicine and professional interests in quality improvement education for health professionals, quality improvement methodology and health care delivery redesign.
