Luca Baldelli

Luca Baldelli is a fourth-year resident in Neurology at University of Bologna - IRCCS Istituto delle Scienze Neurologiche di Bologna in Italy, training under the mentorship of Professors Pietro Cortelli and Federica Provini. Luca’s precision and rigor made him obtain the following achievements. Luca graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 2017 with full marks with a final thesis on α-synucleinopathy markers in isolated REM Sleep Behavior Disorder (iRBD) and subsequently obtained a 11-months research fellowship following a Horizon 2020 international project.
Luca’s present research interests are Movement Disorders and Sleep Medicine, both seen in the integrated approach of neurodegenerative disease such as α-synucleinopathies. He is currently part of a project studying the burden of iRBD as a prodromal marker of parkinsonisms and dementias, especially when associated to other subtle but suggestive neurological signs, often unnoticed by the patients. Moreover, he is interested in the neurophysiological relation between sleep and autonomic nervous system, with particular attention to rare disorders encompassing these systems, such as Fatal Familial Insomnia.
Luca recently entered a PhD program with a project evaluating the impact of Deep Brain Stimulation on the sleep of PD patients by means also of the evaluation of subthalamic local field potentials.
