Leena Shoemaker, PhD
Leena (pronounced Lay-na) Shoemaker is a Postdoctoral Associate at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada. She works with Professor Keith St. Lawrence and his team in the Department of Medical Biophysics. Her research is focused on the integrative control of brain blood flow across the lifespan, and how it responds to external and internal perturbations (e.g., exercise, hypotension, aging, and increased cognitive demand). With the combined use of ultrasound and novel optical monitoring systems, she hopes to determine the cerebral macro- and microvascular role in healthy cognitive aging and how social engagement and physical exercise can promote ideal cerebrovascular function. Outside of research, Leena teaches within Health Sciences and works to incorporate inclusive pedagogy and active learning within her classroom. She is passionate about the promotion of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on campus and within research.
