Harold van Bosse

Dr. Harold van Bosse is a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon, specializing in arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC) and Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS). He completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Illinois in Chicago in 1994 and pediatric orthopaedic fellowship at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children in 1995. AMC and PWS currently constitute 90% of the patients treated in his practice, which allows for deeper study of topics that he finds fascinating - limb deformities, pediatric hip pathology, congenital foot deformities, and scoliosis of the growing spine. He developed an arthrogryposis center in Philadelphia, where the goal of the Center was to allow children with arthrogryposis to reach their fullest potential, both by addressing their limb deformities, as well as helping them to function/adapt with the limitations they have. In PWS, his efforts have been largely treating the very young child with PWS and spine deformities. For these children, treatment devoted to the least invasive modalities that will preserve spinal growth and chest development are emphasized.
He is the treasurer of the LLRS, as well as active in AAOS, POSNA, and SRS. Moreover, he is on advisory boards of national and international Prader-Willli syndrome organizations; on the board of directors for AMC Support and board of directors for A Leg To Stand On, a non-governmental organization. He has taught the Ponseti clubfoot casting technique at workshops in India, Haiti and Peru, and participated in medical missions in Colombia. He could not have gotten this far without the support of my wife, Ana.
