Janet Williams, DNP, MSM, CNM, FACNM
Janet A. Williams, DNP, MSM, CNM, FACNM is a doctoral-prepared board-certified midwife with 20 years of experience in a collaborative hospital practice. She received her Master’s in Midwifery from SUNY Downstate and her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Wilkes University. She has helped mothers bring more than 900 babies earth side. Realizing the importance of mentoring students, she held an appointment at Columbia University as a clinical instructor for graduate midwifery students and precepted medical students from the Albert Einstein School of Medicine.
Dr. “J” is the Founder and CEO of Transitions Women’s Health LLC. She is known as “The Conversation Starter” and is a leading expert in implicit bias training within healthcare delivery. Her focus is improving maternal outcomes by educating healthcare professionals and students internationally to recognize and address biases and systemic racism that contribute to disparities in care. Dr. J developed a groundbreaking framework entitled “B.L.A.C.K. Mothers Interrupted”®, which is aimed at educating others on the disproportionately high maternal mortality and morbidity rates among women of color. It sheds light on the health inequities perpetuated by striving for tangible solutions to bridge these gaps.
In addition to her impactful work, Dr. J is a published author and sought-after speaker on the national stage. “Transitions 4th Trimester Journal” is a resource to support women through the transformative postpartum journey. She also recently released “ Implicit Bias: It’s OK to Change Your Mind- The Playbook,” a 30-day workbook offering practical exercises and insights for recognizing, challenging, and changing implicit biases. This resource serves as a valuable tool for individuals committed to fostering inclusivity and equity in their personal and professional lives.
With her expertise and passion, Dr. J continues to make significant strides in reshaping the landscape of maternal healthcare to ensure that every birthing person receives the care and support they deserve.
