Ifeoma Okoye, MBBS | FWACS | FMCR | Emeritus Professor of Radiology
Professor Ifeoma J. Okoye, MBBS, FWACS, FMCR, affectionately known as the Pinky Professor, is a
retired Professor of Radiation Medicine at the University of Nigeria Nsukka and the University of Nigeria
Teaching Hospital, Enugu. She leads the University of Nigeria Center of Excellence for Clinical Trials
(UNNCECT) and directs a Clinical Trial Consultancy serving both local and international clients.
Over the course of nearly a decade, Professor Okoye has made significant contributions to the
advancement of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and cancer control efforts in Nigeria, Africa, and
globally, through two of her social enterprises, namely Breast Without Spot (BWS) and the Association
for Good Clinical Practice in Nigeria (AGCPN).
Some of her contributions include:
i. Advocating for the establishment of the National Health Research Ethics Committee (NHREC) in 2007,
following AGCPN’s recommendation to the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Health, which stemmed from
its inaugural annual Clinical Trials Summit.
ii. Pioneering the International Cancer Week in Nigeria (ICW) in 2009, now the largest annual oncology
event in Nigeria and Africa, by the Federal Ministry of Health.
iii. Representing Nigeria at the UN High-Level Meeting (HLM) in 2011, as a government delegate, based
on strong endorsement from the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to the Federal Ministry of
Health.
iv. Leading BWS to receive the highest Signature contribution from Africa and second worldwide,
towards Global Advocacy to prioritize NCDs at the UN 2011 HLM.
v. Becoming the first African Observer on the Board of UICC on October 24, 2012.
vi. Conceiving the idea for the establishment of the National Institute for Cancer Research & Treatment
(NICRAT), with initial drafting undertaken by her, subsequently receiving legislative support from
Senator Mao Ohabunwa who championed the bill.
Professor Okoye contributes her expertise & wealth of knowledge to various boards such as Project Pink
Blue, and National Committee’s, notably as a member of NAFDAC’s Clinical Trial Technical Working
Group, the National Implementation Committee on Cancer Control (NICCC), and the Cancer Health Fund
(CHF). Additionally, she has recently been appointed to the advisory board of OncoInv.
The Pinky Prof is married to Engr. Sir Chris Okoye and is blessed with four children and three grandchildren.
She is the recipient of numerous awards and has been featured extensively in international, African, and
Nigerian media.
She is deeply committed to Human Capital Development (with a quiver, filled
with mentees) and the Great Commission, serving as a Pastor at Living by Design Nation.
