Simulation 101: Developing Excellence in Simulation-Based Education (FY25)

October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025

This course, offered by the UTSW Simulation Center team, is for faculty and healthcare educators, including Physicians, Fellows and Residents, Nurse Educators, School of Health Professions Faculty and other Healthcare Educators, who are new to simulation or would like to learn more about simulation-based education as a teaching/learning and assessment/evaluation strategy. The course consists of online modules which learners complete asynchronously; and a two full-day workshops, scheduled two weeks apart. Day One of the workshop can be delivered either online/virtually or in-person. Regardless of the format, the content includes didactic lectures & group discussion on simulation modalities, curriculum development, and the simulation processes of prebriefing, facilitation, and debriefing. There is time allotted for participants to collaborate with simulation professionals as they begin to develop their own simulation-based learning activity. Day Two is hosted in the UTSW Simulation Center and includes hands-on practice of simulation facilitation skills, including manikin operations, scenario building, moulage, prebriefing, and debriefing. Simulation 101 is offered three times per year in April, August and October. The workshops are scheduled on the 1st & 3rd or 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of the month. *See attached agenda, overview of D2L modules, and powerpoint presentations for more details regarding course content. The course spans approximately 1 month, including the online and in-person components. This course is based upon the foundational content originally developed by the Simulation Faculty Development Committee in 2018; content is reviewed and updated annually

Target Audience
