Margaret Wang French, MD
Dr. Wang French specializes in corneal and external disease, and her clinical interests include improving the diagnosis and therapies for patients with complex anterior segment and ocular surface disease.
Originally from Stillwater, Oklahoma, Dr. Wang French moved to Dallas from Miami, FL, where she completed a fellowship in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Both her internal medicine internship and ophthalmology residency training were at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston where she served as chief resident and received the Goar Award for Best Resident Research Project. Dr. Wang French earned her medical degree from McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She holds a Bachelor of Science in bioengineering (minor in biophysics) from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Teaching, service, and advocacy have been central to Dr. Wang French’s career. In addition to serving as chief resident while at Baylor, she was a resident representative for GME activities who advocated for surgical subspecialties across medical school committees. She also represented Texas ophthalmology residents at the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s (AAO) Mid-Year Forum in 2021. While in medical school, Dr. Wang French was named an Albert Schweitzer Fellow and founded a novel Technology Access Program for low-vision residents in Harris County.
Dr. Wang French belongs to several professional organizations, including AAO, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), Women in Ophthalmology, the Texas Ophthalmological Association, Houston Ophthalmology Women, and the American Academy of Ophthalmic Executives. She has published several peer-reviewed papers and presented on multiple national meeting podiums, including an Honorable Mention at the 2021 ASCRS annual meeting cornea poster session for her work on keratoneuralgia. Dr Wang French’s research on neurotrophic keratitis was also featured in the Best of Young Eye Surgeons at the 2023 ASCRS annual meeting.
