Ashish Ranjan, Ashish Ranjan, B.V.Sc., Ph.D. Robert B. and Virginia Payne Professorship in Oncology Director: Veterinary Research and Oncology Clinic (VROC) Vice Chair: Research Innovations/Comparative Oncology

Dr. Ashish Ranjan is Vice Chair of Comparative Oncology and Research Innovations and Director of the Veterinary Research and Oncology Clinic (VROC) at UT Southwestern Medical Center. VROC is a first-of-its-kind facility dedicated to conducting parallel clinical trials in companion animals with naturally occurring cancers, providing a critical translational bridge to accelerate therapeutic development for human oncology.
Dr. Ranjan holds a veterinary degree and a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from Virginia Tech and previously served as an Endowed Chair and Director of the INTERACT program at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Oklahoma State University. He also trained as a visiting fellow at the National Institutes of Health.
His research integrates nanomedicine, immunotherapy, and focused ultrasound to reprogram the tumor microenvironment, with a focus on overcoming immunosuppression and therapeutic resistance. His work has led to multiple NIH and state funded projects and informed the design of early-phase comparative and translational trials. He serves on NIH study sections, has been a member of the Focused Ultrasound Foundation’s advisory board, and has received several awards recognizing his contributions to translational cancer research.
