2nd Annual Sickle Cell Disease Educational Speaker Series (RP1609B)

The overall purpose of this program is to effectively and adequately educate health care providers and allied health staff on the proper diagnosis and treatment and how to approach pain management of patients with sickle cell disease. Basic neurologic complications in patients with sickle cell disease will also be discussed. The format of this program will be a series of lectures presented by experts in the field on a variety of topics followed by simultaneous provider and allied health sessions.

Target Audience

This course is designed for physicians, counselors, psychologists, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, scientists/researchers, community health workers, community stakeholders, and social workers who are seeking updates in the appropriate management and ongoing care of patients with sickle cell disease.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Discuss recent advancements in the field of sickle cell disease and how they impact the care for the adult and adolescent populations.
  2. Describe some complex disease specific complications in sickle cell disease and ways to manage these.
