The course will present the latest information in the use of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for the treatment of psychiatric conditions. It will seek to explain how and why TMS works was a treatment for mood disorders. The program will conclude with practical takeaways for psychiatric practitioners utilizing TMS as a treatment for patients, including practical considerations for special populations. 

Major depressive disorder is a serious, debilitating illness that affects individuals of all ages and backgrounds, including children and adolescents. In fact, the majority of lifetime mood disorders onset during the adolescent years. While several efficacious treatments have been developed, many suffering from depression fail to reach full remission and experience lifelong challenges due to the chronic and episodic nature of the disease. One novel treatment that has gained recent popularity is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), a form of neurostimulation. This event will provide insight on how neurostimulation can help children and adolescents achieve remission. Noninvasive brain stimulation techniques have a potentially broader clinical application than invasive techniques.Yet there is a need for more familiarity and in-depth understanding among practitioners of how and when to utilize TMS.
