Ophthalmology at the Crossroads 2022 (RP2212J)

This course is designed to bring the cutting edge basic and clinical research findings to both the practicing general ophthalmologist and sub-specialist in all fields of ophthalmology, including the seven sub-specialty areas: cornea and external disease, retina and vitreous surgery, pediatric ophthalmology, neuro-ophthalmology, ophthalmic plastic surgery, ophthalmic pathology, and glaucoma. This course also offers a medical ethics lecture and updates regarding changes in healthcare policy.

Target Audience

This symposium is designed for practicing and academic ophthalmologists.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Examine the advantages and disadvantages of gene therapies and its impact on expanding the current therapeutic arsenal for retinal diseases.
  • Identify the rationale of intracameral antibiotic prophylaxis.
  • Review inflammatory pathways in dry eye disease and to review evidence based therapy for dry eye disease.
  • Analyze the use of forward genetics approach in retina research to impact retinal development, function and disease.
  • Apply changing documentation rules to increase Medicare coverage of diagnostic tools and therapies.
  • Investigate how humor affects our daily lives as physicians; and how humor can be used effectively to evaluate equality in medical care and the profession of medicine.
