SRC's 18th Annual Spine Symposium (JS2501B)
During the one-day educational course, current treatment and research activities related to pediatric spine deformity commonly seen will be presented/discussed. This course will provide updates on the latest state-of-art treatment options for the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of pediatric spinal deformities and introduce new and innovative treatment options through research activities at SRC. Lectures utilizing PowerPoint presentations from the invited speaker, SRC staff and fellows and UTSW residents will be followed by case presentations and discussion. Ample time will be allowed for audience participation during the question-and-answer portion of the meeting.
Target Audience
This educational event is appropriate for orthopedic surgeons, pediatricians, family practitioners, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses and other allied health professionals with interest in pediatric orthopedic spinal conditions.
Learning Objectives
- Identify and discuss the specific sagittal plane measurements that are used to preoperatively characterize each pediatric patient with spinal deformity
- Review common presentation of pediatric spinal deformity with special attention to the sagittal plane of the thoracic (kyphosis) and lumbar (lordosis) spine.
- Discuss surgical solutions to adequately improve the sagittal plane deformity and identify specific parameters to measure to achieve the optimal alignment for the long-term health of the spine.
