[2:15pm - 3:15pm] Session 4: How to run a virtual simulation for task training (10 participants max)
Virtual simulation has become a useful modality for training in light of constraints imposed by the pandemic. Advantages associated with remote learning are beginning to emerge and it is likely that such strategies will play a role in the future, regardless of the need for social distancing. In this workshop, we will discuss key elements of designing and implementing a virtual curriculum for task training. We will share our experience with a proficiency-based virtual knot-tying and suturing curriculum, including self-practice using at-home supplies, video-based assessment, and D2L curriculum support. Anyone who is interested in learning more about remote learning for task-based simulation is encouraged to attend. Prior experience with in-person task simulation is helpful but not required. Each participant should create a real or fictitious example of a task simulation they wish to implement for this workshop; we will go step-by-step using each participants’ example to help identify challenges and potential solutions.
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the steps necessary to create a virtual task simulation curriculum
- Identify resources required to successfully implement a virtual task simulation curriculum
- Develop assessment methods for virtual task simulation
- Create approaches for providing learner feedback using virtual task simulation
