[2:15pm - 3:15pm] Session 7: Engineering in Healthcare Simulation

Technologies such as novel haptic devices, sensor systems, and interactive virtual environments could play a major role in driving the future of technology-mediated medical training. In this 2-part workshop, a panel of experts from clinical fields, as well as engineering and computer science, will: (1) discuss needs for new technology development in simulation-based training, (2) highlight current state-of-the-art techniques to objectively assess skill acquisition and retention and discuss their limitations, and (3) share opportunities available to initiate and fund new technology development projects. 

Learning Objectives

At the Conclusion of this session, participants will be able to: 

  • Describe open problems in simulation-based training that require technological innovations 
  • Understand recent developments in technology for simulation-based training and assessment 
  • Develop a roadmap for finding the appropriate clinical or technological partners to initiate a project, as well as to explore avenues for external funding and dissemination through publications.
