[3:30pm - 4:30pm] Session 5: How to run a virtual simulation for standardized patients

The use of telemedicine has been growing for decades; the current pandemic has only emphasized its importance in the provision of health care.  Health professional schools must properly prepare their graduates for the use of telemedicine.  This session will briefly review the teaching of telemedicine and the tools available to educators to teach telemedicine before engaging the participants in an exercise that showcases the use of the tool available for use in UT Southwestern’s Simulation Center to teach telemedicine skills. 

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to: 

  1. Describe the history of telemedicine 
  2. List the advantages and disadvantages of:  
    1. Virtual versus in-person use of SPs 
    2. Several options for hosting virtual simulations using SPs 
  3. Draw their own conclusions about virtual simulations using standardized patient from their own participation in such a session
