Michael Hynan, PhD
<p><span style="font-size:12pt"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Michael Hynan is Professor Emeritus of Clinical Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He is the father of Chris Leslie-Hynan, who was born 10 weeks premature in 1980 and spent 42 days in a NICU. He wrote, “The Pain of Premature Parents: A Psychological Guide for Coping” published by University Press of America in 1987. Afterward, he and his colleagues published a series of research studies on emotional distress (primarily posttraumatic stress) in high-risk parents. He developed a questionnaire, the Perinatal Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Questionnaire (PPQ), which has been used both clinically and in many research studies. The PPQ has been translated into multiple languages. He has been a board member of the Wisconsin Association for Perinatal Care and the Perinatal Foundation. He serves on the editorial board of Journal of Perinatology. He is also currently an emeritus member of the board of directors of The National Perinatal Association (NPA). In 2017 Dr. Hynan received the highest yearly award given by NPA, the Stan Graven award. Currently he is a mentor for the National Network of NICU Psychologists.
