2nd Annual Down Syndrome Symposium (RP2403E)

Down syndrome is the most common chromosomal condition diagnosed in the United States and over 100 babies born with Down syndrome in the North Texas region annually. As the average lifespan of people with Down syndrome is now about 60 years, the number of children and youth in North Texas needing longitudinal guidance and health care birth through young adulthood continues to grow. This symposium is the first and only in North Texas geared toward individuals with Down syndrome. It is designed to enhance collaborative clinical/research endeavors that can potentially improve present care management and set standards and goals for future research and advancement in field of care in Down syndrome.

Target Audience
This conference is targeted towards Primary Care Providers, nurse practitioners, and all medical specialists, and researchers involved in the care of individuals with Down syndrome who are seeking specialized updates in clinical and research in this area.
Learning Objectives
- Identify and discuss important up-to-date medical topics in Pediatric Down syndrome to enhance knowledge of complex medical conditions surrounding the necessary clinical care.
- Discuss strategies for improved cross-disciplinary clinical care of the patient with Down syndrome.
- Highlight and discuss the clinical and translational research activities in Down syndrome currently taking place at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
